What people use it for

Mostly research today, but the interest is in sexual desire and reproductive hormones: it sits upstream of testosterone, estrogen, and the brain's sexual responses.

The signal

Kisspeptin neurons in the hypothalamus initiate the entire hormonal cascade of reproduction. No kisspeptin, no puberty, no cycle, no testosterone production. It's the signal the rest of the system waits for.

How it works

It activates receptors on the neurons that release GnRH, the hormone that instructs the pituitary to drive the ovaries and testes. Giving it turns the whole downstream axis up [1].

What the research shows

Human studies show giving kisspeptin reliably stimulates reproductive hormone release [1, 2], and imaging trials found it enhanced sexual-brain processing in men with low desire [3]. This is active academic research with real trials, mostly at Imperial College London, and no approved product anywhere yet.

What people get wrong

That upstream means stronger. Kisspeptin turns the system on; it doesn't override what's downstream, and its desire research is early, with brain-imaging changes rather than proven symptom relief.
